The more you try this Highland scotch the more you discover. anCnoc have created a real session scotch here with this 12 year old. As soon as you pop the cork you get distinct sweet aromas of almost banana and vanilla. It’s not clear which casks are used but the smell would indicate ex-bourbon casks, which are commonly used by scotch makers anyway. It’s a light whisky but not bland. The taste is slightly fruity with perhaps a bit of elderflower, partly matching the aroma. It doesn’t have a spice levels of other Highland scotches but this makes it a little more distinct.
This is a whisky you could quite happily sit back and enjoy with mates over a long afternoon/evening. If you’re into deep flavour or peaty whiskies this is perhaps not for you but for those interested in lighter scotches that don’t compromise on flavour this is a must have.
