With 12 years in ex-bourbon casks and 9 months in old Spanish sherry casks it’s more of a 12 and three quarter year old scotch whisky. With the bulk of time being in the used American Oak barrels this means you get that trademark vanillary aroma and taste of many Speyside single malts. The stint in the sherry casks just adds mild fruity notes. There’s also an element of spice with this whisky, which is surprisingly refreshing.
The Balvenie DoubleWood is an extremely popular single malt and is a great whisky for anyone looking to get into the world of scotch, it’s a fairly easy drinker but shouts quality at the same time.
